چکیده

The chemical specificity of Porphyrin derivatives, Tetraphenylporphinesulfonate (TPPS), 5, 10, 15, 20-Tetrakis (4-sulfonatophenyl) porphyrinato Iron (III) Chloride (FeTPPS) and 5, 10, 15, 20-Tetrakis (4-sulfonatophenyl) porphyrinato Iron (III) nitrosyl Chloride (FeNOTPPS), on osmotic fragility of erythrocytes was examined in vitro. TPPS increased the osmotic fragility of erythrocytes more effectively in hypotonic PBS solution. Incorporation of iron and nitroso group in the Porphyrin ring decreased the effectiveness. The results showed that the size, form and elements introduced into the Porphyrin compound affected its affinity to the cell membrane, and changed the osmotic resistance in erythrocytes.

Studies of Human HbAA Erythrocyte Osmotic Fragility Index of Non-Malarious Blood in the Presence of Five Anti-malarial Drugs

Background: The capacity of human HbAA erythrocytes of non-malarious blood to withstand osmotic stress in the presence of five antimalarial drugs, Chloroquine phosphate, Quinine, FansidarTM, CoartemTM and HalfanTM was studied in vitro. Materials and Methods: Aqueous solutions of four increasing concentrations of the drugs used in this investigation were in the order: 0.2%, 0.4%, 0.6% and 0.8% (...

Erythrocyte fragility in hyperthyroid patients

Mild anaemia among patients with hyperthyroidism, reduction in intracranial zinc content of erythrocytes and anti- haemolysis of whole blood of patients with Graves, disease under laboratory Condition are the facts which indicate that although erythrocytes are devoid of receptors for thyroid hormones, they are affected by the excess of these hormones. In order to find out the reasons for suc...

Diminished osmotic fragility of human erythrocytes following the membrane insertion of oxygenated sterol compounds.

Oxygenated sterol compounds (OSC), when incubated for 1 hr with human erythrocytes in lipoprotein-depleted medium at concentrations of 0.625-5 X 10(-5) M, are inserted into the cell membrane and remain there despite subsequent washing of the cells. The insertion results in expansion of the surface area of the red cell ghost membrane, an increase in critical hemolytic volume, and as a consequenc...

Individual Osmotic Fragility Distribution: A New Parameter for Determination of the Osmotic Properties of Human Red Blood Cells

The aim of our experiments was to characterise and to validate the osmotic fragility test when applied to human blood samples with no significant alterations of osmotic fragility but with a differentiating shape of the haemolysis curve. All experiments were carried out on human erythrocytes taken from the Regional Centre of Blood Donation and Blood Therapy in Wrocław. The washed erythrocytes we...

The Molecular Species Composition of Phosphatidyicholine Affects Cellular Properties in Normal and Sickle Erythrocytes

The phosphatidylcholine specific transfer protein (PCTP) from bovine liver was used to retailor the molecular species composition of phosphatidylcholine (PC) in the membrane of normal (AA) and sickleable (SS) human erythrocytes. Changes in molecular species composition of PC altered morphology as well as cellular deformability and stability as measured with ektacytometry. In normal cells. repla...
